This article is useful because it has the answers to many questions that we don't learn in school, for example how much money does a building engineer make. Everyone who has an interest in the field of the construction should read it. I am motivated to write it because I will learn a lot of new information about my future career, and I want everybody who is interested in this domain being able to find the answers to their questions easily.
The job of building engineering is very varied, but they always work on a project, they can lead a team, they solve problems, and they negotiate.
They can design buildings, review constructions documents, inspect and test construction sites, purchase building materials, consult with clients, supervise constructions sites, prepare periodic reports and conduct research.
Each day is very different for a building engineer. In the morning, they can work on a project, for example they can make a plan for a school. After, they can have a meeting with their employees to discus about another bigger project, they can talk about the specifications, the deadline and the problem that there is. In the afternoon, they can go on a construction site to see if the apartment that he created progress. At the end of the day he can plan for the next day and resolve some problems that occur in the day.
Buildings are everywhere so building engineers are, for example they can work in a hospital, schools, shopping centers, hotels, apartments, and governmental buildings. There is even a lot more of places!
Firstly, you need to go to the CEGEP to have a DEC, you can have it in Natural Science, civil engineering and more. Secondly, for the university, you need a bachelor degree's in building engineering.
It depends on the town were the building engineer work, and his experience, but he typically makes $90 000 to $96 000. It can be lower or higher than these numbers.
All engineers need the Professional Engineer License. Specifically a building engineer needs the HVAC certification (or heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems), they also need an Electricical Systems certification and a Building Automation Systems.
For the job, building engineers need to go on the construction site. It can be dangerous because there is a chance of falling off the structure, the site can also cause electrocution and noise pollution.
The chances are very low because engineers need to resolve complex problems and robots are not able to do this task.
A majority of building engineers retire between the age of 60 and 65.
For my part, I will graduate cegep this year. I am in Natural Science, and next year I will start my bachelor's degree in building Engineering. I will graduate in the summer 2030.
