Introduction

Have you ever thought or wondered what was a physical therapist, well I hope I can ease your mind with this article? It will go through the main questions that usually come to mind when you want to learn more about a profession such as the studies you will have to do, what a typical day looks like, the salary obviously and if, there’s even a slim chance that we won’t be needed in the future. This article is my way to show my future profession and maybe along the way get more people to join it too.


What is it like to be a physical therapist ?

Being a physical therapist, it’s knowing that you’re helping other people get through their days without feeling any restrictions or pain while moving. You help people with disabilities and injuries get back to their original conditions or preserve it.


What do physical therapists do?

They will improve your range of motion, relieve you of your discomfort and pain, help you regain strength or flexibility with an exercise plan. They also give advice to prevent new injuries. This job is mainly manual, so you never get bored and always in movement.


What do physical therapists do on a typical day?

On a typical day, a physical therapist will have 30 minutes to 1 hour with each patient to put in application the exercises plan he created, evaluate their condition to determine a diagnosis, do manual therapy and give advice to prevent further injuries.


Where do physical therapists work?

A physical therapist can work at various places l, both public or private. Whichever place you choose, your clients will be different. You could decide to be with a sports team, in a hospital, a Long term care center (LTCC) or a private clinic. We have a place for everyone preference.


How can I become a physical therapist ?

To become a physical therapist you have two choices. The first is to enter the Physical Therapy Technique then go to university while working on the side or entering the Science program then go to university and complete a Bachelor’s and a Master in a physical therapy program. You may need specific certification if you desire to be in the pediatric service or gerontology.


How much money do physical therapists make?

In Canada, a physical therapist can make $85 000 to $113 000. Of course, it can differ according to your education, your work center and experience.


What kinds of additional training do physical therapists need?

There are a lot of conferences that physical therapist can attend if they want to stay up date. There’s also extra courses the can do to learn more specific techniques for massage or the spine and more.


What are the dangers of being a physical therapist ?

The obvious danger that comes with this profession is injury yourself while doing a maneuver on a patient, especially when they can’t move or don’t have enough strength. There’s also some risks that you could damage your reputation if you get many complaints.


What are the chances that physical therapists will be replaced by robots soon?

The chances that we will be replaced by robots are very low, because this job requires a lot of manipulation on someone else’s body and is very human.


What age do physical therapists retire at?

On average, a physical therapist can retire between 60 and 65 years old. However, some may stay longer or become teachers during their career, at least in Quebec.


Conclusion

I am currently in my second year in the physical therapy program at Montmorency College and I’m planning to pursue my education at the university to become a professional.
