The biggest danger is loosing your job if you do not sell enough products. But, don't worry this situation is very rare. Since your salary is based on your actual sells, the more work you put in the more you'll get paid. The job is also very tiring, and many people quit after a few years. In other words, the dangers are money and exhaustion.
Computers will take over all the boring tasks, but they will not replace human workers completely. The companies always need some human to come up with creative ideas for each special individual. Computers are not creative, if you are well in what you do you will not get replaced by robots anytime soon.
Some people retire early if they make a lot of money. Others work until they are approximately 60 year old, or they just work part-time because they like what they do.
Marketing is a hard but fun job that needs you to be smart and creative. If you get through the tough early years, it becomes a great career. You also need to put in the work that is needed.
