Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Rosemarie Coursol. At the moment, I am studying Social Sciences at Lionel-Groulx College. It's my second and last year in this program because next year I will go to university. Social Sciences are about the psychological and relational sides of human. Thereby, this program leads to careers that involve a lot of interactions. Actually, I want to become a mathematics' teacher in High school. A teacher can work in primary or secondary schools. Usually, in primary schools they teach many subjects in one class. In secondary schools, they teach one or two specific subjects in one or many grades level. Teachers have a regular schedule often between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, they have too much work, so they work more than 40 hours per week.


What do teachers do?

Teachers have many tasks. Of course, they have to create exercises, to teach lessons, to grade their students, to generate homework. Also, they need to meet parents and contact them each week to follow up students' academic progress. Teachers often have a period to work in the school as, for instance, monitoring students in detention. Sometimes, they get staff meeting and more rarely they can work as supervisor on a school trip. Creating interest from their students is probably the most difficult task for a teacher.


What do teachers do on a typical day?

On a typical day, teachers generate and teach lessons. Also, they generate homework and grade students on their work performances or for their participation. In addition, they help students to resolve their personal or academic problems, and they try to caption their attention by creating an interest or by making some jokes.


Where do teachers work?

Teachers work in primary or secondary school. More often, they work inside, but sometimes they can go outside for a special activity. They can have their own class, or they are moving in many classes. It depends on the school where they work. They can also work in the teachers' room where they usually have their own desk.


How can I become teacher?

If you want to become a teacher, you must finish your secondary school. After, you had to go in college, but you don't have to choose a specific program. Usually, people choose to go in Social Sciences because it's the most common program. In university, you need to succeed the bachelor and then you can start to teach as a real teacher.


How much money do teachers make?

When they start, teachers have an average salary of $40 000 per year. When, they teach for a couple of years, they make an average salary of $64 340 per year.


What kinds of additional training do teachers need?

Usually, teachers don't need additional training. However, if they want to teach a specific subject as biology, they need to succeed this subject as student. Also, after their bachelor, teachers can continue to study for their own pleasure, or to specialize, for example, to teach children with learning difficulties.


What are the dangers of being teacher?

Most of the time, being teacher don't provide dangers. However, teachers can have violent students in their groups, and they can be involved in a fight. They can also be recipient of hateful comments. In addition, in the past, schools have been the victims of shooting, so it could be a danger for teachers.


What are the chances that teachers will be replaced by robots soon?

Teachers can't be replaced by robots because they must have empathized. Also, relationships and dealing with many personality types is important. Teachers must treat their students fairly, and they must adapt their lessons to the abilities level. Actually, robots can't do anything of this because they don't have feelings.


What age do teachers retire at?

Most of the time, teachers retired between 60 and 65 years old.
