In Quebec, you go to CEGEP and follow the Textile Construction program that last 3 years, after you have the option to go to Concordia to do a major in fiber art and this can open more doors if you want to specialize in something particular. You can do an interior design specialization, a design specialization, a sewing specialization, even a theatre or a history specialization. You can even choose to go to single classes or learn new method or talk with people who can teach you certain way. You can even go on the internet and read books to learn the newest fiber art or even the oldest one.
The dangers of being a fiber artist are that the equipment that we use can dysfunction and hurt ourselves. Also, if we don't diversify the types of fiber that we use, we can become allergic to it if it comes too much in contact with our skin and can cause brown lungs
The chances that fiber artists will be replaced by robots soon are low because fiber art always existed, and you need creativity to make the work that we do. Also, a robot couldn't put love and patience that we put in all the work. Fiber artists can see when a piece is made by a manufacturer, and you can see that the quality is much lower than something that you can make homemade. Robot couldn't take our job because nothing would last.
I don't think fiber artist retire because it a huge part of themselves, and you never retire from something you truly love. They might retire from a job where they need to make certain pieces, or they are a teacher, and they want to stop teacher fiber art, but they will never stop making fiber art for themselves.
In conclusion, I don't know where I find myself in this trajectory because I want to learn everything that I can and don't know where this will send me. I'm currently doing the Textile Construction program and might go to Concordia next if I stay in Montreal. I will maybe leave Montreal and go live near the water and if I do, I might start my own company far from the city life.
