Paramedics come to your house to give you the medical attention that you need while bringing you to the hospital. They are there for emergency situations. They also do social intervention with people that can be suicidal in example or victim of an aggression in all its form. They are here to help the patients in an immediate need of help.
Paramedics start their shift by doing an inspection of the truck. When they are finished, they tell the communication center that they are ready to receive a call. When they receive a call on their screen, they read all the informations and prepare themselves to do the intervention. When they arrive at the patient, they give the medical attention that is needed and bring the patient to the hospital. When the patient is being taken care of by the emergency crew at the hospital, one paramedic writes a report while the other is cleaning the equipment and the sequence continues.
Paramedic work for a company that covers a specific territory. For example, if you work for the company " Urgences-sante" , you will be working in Montreal, Laval because this is their territory. Every territory is covered by a different company, so you can work where ever you want ,but you have to choose the company that covers that place.
You can become a paramedic by doing a three year program in college. The program is open at Ahuntsic college, John abbot college, St-foy college, St-hyacinthe college, etc.

I don't think paramedics will be replaced by robots any time soon. There is no artificial intelligence/robots that has the capacity to do the social part of the job. I don't think they would be able to make the patients feel that they are not alone.
Paramedics retire around 60 years old. They mostly retire when they are not physically able to do the job anymore. There is no age limit, everyone retires at a different age.
In conclusion, being a paramedic in a wonderful job. I encourage you to go trough with the idea of doing the program and becoming this kind of social and healthcare hero.
