I write this article for the people that are either interested just for the bare minimum knowledge and their curiosity about Analytic Chemistry, and for the people that are interested and even think about doing their studies to be future Analytic Chemists. Everything that they would need or want to know are written in this article.
It requires a lot of concentration and responsibility. It also requires co-workers to be able to work efficiently together.
Analytical chemists analyze and identify chemicals in substances (either liquid or solid) and their amount in them, using advanced scientific equipment. If the amount of the chemicals (or the chemicals themselves) are incorrect, they regulate those amounts.
They analyze chemical substances. Based on the results they get, they do data analysis and interpretation of those same results. They end up doing reports from the work done. All of that can be done alone as much as it can be done with a team
Since analytical chemists can work in many fields, they can work in totally different places : hospitals, forensic labs (places where we solve crimes) and laboratories or industries aiming at one particular field (research/development) are some of the places where an analytical chemist can work. They can also work in places such as agricultural companies and environmental ones
Being an analytical chemist requires you, at the very least, to have done a bachelor's degree in either chemistry, physics and/or any related field which will make you capable of being an analytical chemist. To get an even better wage/have a more important position, a master's degree or Ph.D is required.
On average, in Canada, analytical chemists make $54,200, but it can go up to reach around $72,000.
No additional training is required, but more experience in laboratories can be very helpful
Some substances/chemicals that analytical chemists use/handle are dangerous to the human body and can cause deep burns and even unwanted reactions that can have long-lasting consequences.
Analytical chemists are most likely not going to be replaced by robots anytime soon, though advanced equipment and robots will be most likely used more and more often
Analytical chemists usually retire around the age of 60/65, like most jobs, but some workers tend to retire around the 70s.
Overall, to be an analyst chemist you need to like working together as much as alone, you need to be responsible, and you really need to like analyzing substances and to resolve problems.
