Ah, the job of a police officer ain't easy, but if I learn something throughout life, is that nothing is easy. So why wouldn't try to be one? You can have anymore exiting job than this one. This article will be mainly focused to the future Police Technology students that will have several questions about the job. I am motivated to write this article because I think that it is important that the new people are aware of what they will have to go through as a police officer, on a daily basis.
Being a police officer is a lot of daily stress. You are constantly being put under so much pressure to well perform. You have to do a lot of paper work and mediation between the people. More often than never, it's a lot of communication with everyone. As a police officer, the people look out for you. Even though we are not well-perceived by a lot of people, we must still perform our job correctly and not criticism affect us.
Police officers do a lot of paperwork. Submitting declaration, going to court, and doing report all day long can be quite demanding for the brain. Also, you are the last call on the chain, so you know it's a lot of trouble if you need to go to a call. Sometimes, it's a bit of talk with the people's concern, but sometimes you need to use force and stand your feet on the ground to make a point.
On a typical day, they get coffee in the morning at McDonald's. They probably get glazed donuts too, but they will never admit. After that, they have there fall-in with the sergeant, to know what are the operations they need to complete by the day. After that, depending on the rank you have, you do some patrol in your patrol car all day long, giving tickets and arresting people that are perpetrators.
Police officers work in variety of places. They work on the street interfering with perpetrators, in their patrol car going places that they police is needed and in the office doing paperwork.
You can become a police officer by studying really hard. In high-school, you need to have an 85% average ranking grade to be accepted in Police Technology, but even with that, you still have to do some physical training test and a medical one. After finally being accepted in Police Tech, you'll need to do three years of hard training and studying really hard. You'll see a lot of your partners leaving because they didn't like the program, but you'll need to stay strong and keep in mind that they will do something that they loved, rater than to stick to a program they don't like. After that, you can apply to the ENPQ, pass all test, graduate, and officially have completed your studying has a police officer. Now, you just have to apply in different places.
In Montreal, When they are rookies, it's not a big deal. It's around 60k a year, but quickly, throughout the years (6 years0, it upgrades up to 110k a year.
It's a lot of mental training. Nothing can prepare you to the things you will see as a police officer. You'll see horrendous thing on a daily basis. So, mental training, to prepare you to these types of situation, can help you a lot has a police officer.
Honestly, there are so many dangers attached to being a police officer, that it is almost impossible to name them all. The most common one, is post-traumatic stress disorder. A lot of police officers have severe traumas related to their jobs and never be the same after these events. It's a serious issue in the world of cops. You also have the gang members. You never know when you will get stab in the back by someone because they didn't like the uniform. Like I said various time, it's a lot of pressure in your shoulders. So, you better get used to it by now, if you want to survive the world of cops.
I honestly think that it will never happen, but why is that? All police officers are people behind the uniform, so they all have different values and perspective that allow them to make different choice in different situations. Because of that, police can help people instead of always being repressive and ignorant about others. In the other hand, if robot takes control over us, I feel like they'll be too much on the laws. They will let no chance to people, no matter what's the context of the situation. I also feel like people won't take them seriously. Like, who are they to give us tickets? Clearly not humans.
They averagely retire after 25 years of services, but that depend on the person and the goals they want to achieve.
In conclusion, being a police officer is far from being easy. It's a roller coaster really. You'll need a lot of resilience and hard work, but once you get the beat, you will find the most precious and rewarding job that could have ever existed.
