To finish, they are considerate like the one that arrest criminal, but they can also help you medically, so they have to get some first-aid training to be able to stop bleeding from a bullet hole for example.
In your life, if you became a police officer you would have to face a lot of danger. The biggest danger in the police is to lose your life, they are not a lot of case where police officer lost theirs live in Quebec, but unfortunately, we have some. This profession was make to protect the population, and the city, they will always be somebody that would not want to complain and make the situation dangerous. The other dangers I can think about is PTSD. When you are a police officer you have to do and see a lot of things the mortal common will not see in their lives, I can think of dead corpse, suicide, car crashes, crime scene, getting shoot at. This type of event can cause you to have nightmares, flashback and psychological stress, so that's why you have to be careful with your mental health in the police universe.
From my point of view, the sphere of policing need to have some human contact. The interaction needs to have some emotions, because some people go trough a lot of stuff and the police is there for protecting them, but also to listen to them and be emphatic. In the other hand, robots can accomplish a lot of things, I can think about the documentation, as a robot, they will be able to document all of the report they have done in the day, compared to real human, they can forget some. Robots can also not feel the pain, so nothing will "stop them" in a way its good because human life will not be taken because it will be the robot that will risk theirs when someone is shooting for example. The robot has a lot of things that are positive, but I think that putting a machine to go talk with a victim and explaining to them some tragedy with no emotion at all, is not the point of the police. In the police, you have to show these emotions, and you have to be there for the person of family, that's why I don't think robot can ever replace the police officer.
I found on the internet that most police officer retire at 55 years old. Like I said, it's the majority, but some police officer's retire before because in that particular job, you have to do at least 25 years of service before retiring. If you start as a police officer at 22 year old, you can retire at 47 years old! But nobody retires because they love theirs job too much. So, it depends on what you want to do with your life, like retiring at 47 can be a good option if you want to travel all around the world or discovering a new job.
As you can see, being a police officer require a lot of training and bravery. It's a difficult job, but it will give you satisfaction when you are helping peoples. I am in my second year in Police Technology at Ahuntsic College, and I am excited to become a police officer one day.
