This article is useful to read for the person who finds an interest on the sales in general. You can learn it as someone who wants to be a salesperson or as well as a salesperson himself. It can give you the opportunity to make sure this is what you want to do, but It can also permit you to be sure that you really like your job. I decided to write this article, because a few years ago I was lost with my job and me just wanted to get help, but I never find it. So, today, I want to make sure that nobody is gonna be in my position again.
Being a salesperson is something very stimulant. You have to always keep an eye on every little thing. Everything can be important, and you have to make sure you don't forget any detail. The client contact is the most important thing in this work. You have to always be patient and listening to your clients. Sometimes you have to deal with aggressively and contempt from your costumers. But, fortunately, all people are not like this and the majority of the interactions are good and respectful. You can be very near to your clients and have a feeling intimacy. At the end of the day, you feel happy and recognize for the luck you have.
As a salesperson, you have to prospect and build long term relationships with costumers. You must help them on presenting the products and services to convince them to become clients. But sometimes, you also have to meet the clients and negotiate a sale with them.
A typical day, salespeople meet in the morning at 9 AM to discuss objectives of the day. After this, at 10 AM, everyone goes to prepare the day of work and made sure that everything is good to be effective and performant. When all of this is done, they start prospecting after the lunch at 2 PM with the phone. They try to set up appointments with prospects to negotiate about the contracts and the sales. At 4 PM, it's time to meet costumers to make the negotiations and to sign the contracts. After this, the day ends, and at 7 PM you can go back home, take care of your children, workout...
At first, all the work of preparation is done at your office. But salespeople work is done everywhere where clients and prospects are. You can be in five different cities in the same day, this is a very mobile job. If you like to move, it's perfect.
You can become a salesperson on doing studies about business and sales. It can be done in a CEGEP or in a business school. But, sometimes, a salesperson can come from any other work and be good at sales because of his humanity qualities.
The money salespeople do his very complicated to say. It depends on one person to another. It can be 50 000 $ a year, but it can also be 100 000 $. It depends on your company, your efficiency and all the other settings.
Salespeople need to stay connect with the actualities and with all the business changeless that can come. So, sometimes it's important to develop new skills, like new technologies, IA... to be competent and consistent in a business world where everything change in a minute.
Being a salesperson takes a lot of time, if you want to succeed you must never count hours. The problem is that you are submitted under burnouts, depressions, mental health problems... Mental health can be affected, that's why a lot of people quit this job.
Personally, I don't think that salespeople are going to be replaced by robots soon. It's not possible to replace human contact. The most important thing in a sale is the spontaneity and the body language. A robot doesn't have talents, it's a machine, and it's not much appreciate by clients.
The traditional age of retirement for salespeople is 67. But it depends on your economic situation and needs. I have ever saw someone retire at 45, but also at 72. There are no rules.
If you recognize yourself in this article, you're made for this job. Be sure that you're able to work this hard without hurting your health. You have now all the keys you needed.
