Being a criminologist is exciting, interesting and very unpredictable.
A criminologist delves into typical social behaviors and investigates the factors that lead individuals to deviate from these norms. They collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies, to examine criminal behavior and strategies. Their objectives range from enhancing apprehension techniques for criminals to forecasting behavioral patterns and motives among different demographic segments, and they evaluate how crime responds to different law enforcement approaches.
Criminologists can participate in awareness campaigns among different audiences likely to commit criminal offenses; Investigate the effectiveness of laws and their ability to prevent the commission of crimes as well as the feeling of security they create in the population.
The criminologist's expertise leads us to work in detention centers, rehabilitation centers, health and social services centers, youth centers, halfway houses, community organizations as well as for the government.
The criminologist can begin his training with a degree in psychology or a technique and then specialize in criminology via a university master's degree.
A criminologist's salary depends on where they work. The salary can reach $49 per hour, for an annual income between 60,000-100,000, but if the criminologist works in a community center, the salary will be much lower.
Other than studying for the position, is not obligatory for a criminologist to do other training, but self-defense courses can be very useful in certain situations.
The work of the criminologist is not a dangerous job like the police, but it can happen that our clients become angry with us or even do not agree with our decisions. It's important to keep your cool during these times, but if things get worse our work stops there, and we call the police for physical intervention.
The chances of robots replacing criminologists are very low in my opinion. Criminologist is essential to interpreting data, developing policy and understanding the roots of crime and these tasks require critical thinking and human expertise.
Generally, criminologists who retire leave during the first few years, due to our workload or even due to the difficult work we do. Some criminologists feel strong enough for this position, but when it is time to work there, many traumas or even fear may arise.
