The salary patrols usually turns around 88 000$ This without any overtime. If you count with the extra-time it can go to 110 00$. If you are a detective, at the beginning you will make 66 000$, but eventually you will reach 120 00$. Again this is without overtime. Clearly this is a well-paid job.
It is important to have your RCAFED witch is a course on the weapon handling, and a course to obtain an emergency driving license. Other than that you need to be in good shape, be able to run and to swim.
Well, one of the biggest dangers is the civilization. As we know it is impossible to anticipate the reaction of a victim, a criminal or just a simple citizen. The job is to protect and serve others so people might have guns and other weapons. In the police job you put your life in danger in order to help other. Be careful and aware of your environment.
In my opinion there is no chance that police officers will be replaced by a robot. There are to many scenario possibles in only one event that a robot would never be able to adapt himself. In addition, people call the police sometimes just to talk or to be reassured. I can't imagine myself be reassured and helped by a robot. I find it impersonal. Other than that, I think it is not safe that robot drive in an emergency situation.
It depends on what time you become a police officer. In Quebec, no matter the police organization, agent are allowed to retire after 25 years of service. The minimum age you can become an officer is 20 years old. If you calculate that means that at 45 years old you could retire.
I am now in my second year of the Police Technology. I still have one last year and my fifteen weeks at Nicolet to become a police officer. When I have the job, I want to start as a patrol really to help others and be in action, adapt myself and other stuff. After, around 5 years I will love to become a member of the SYS witch is the riot, and demonstration management group. This is a well-paid job, and I love the action of it but more important the team spirit.
