If you ever thought about becoming a Travel Agent, then this article is for you! I'm currently studying Tourism at Montmorency College and this is my dream job. I was motivated to write this article because I learnt a lot of things related to this job and I want to share it with you. If you are considering this as your future career, this article will be useful to make a clear choice.
A travel agent needs to be a good speaker. Their job is to sell, so if they don't know how to speak correctly and create good arguments, they won't sell anything. Travel Agents also need to very attentive with their clients. If they don't listen carefully, they might not have the necessary information to answer the client's needs.
Travel agents must find the best prices to meet the needs of the customer. When receiving a customer, they must listen to the customer's requests carefully to find the best product for them. Also, they take care of making all the reservations, either plane tickets, hotel rooms and / or car rental. Another job they have to do is give travel advice or suggestions.
Travel Agents can do plenty of activities on a typical day. They can get calls from customers that needs counseling before buying a package. Then, if the customer wants to buy it, they have to make all the reservations needed for their package. If the client isn't convinced by the first product, they can propose a new destination or different activities.
Travel agents mostly work in a Travel agency. Is an office kind of environment. They can also work from home because most of their tasks are done by computer and/or telephone.
The typical path to become a Travel agent is to finish High School. Then, you can follow Tourism classes at a college, such as Montmorency College or ITHQ. After, you have to do a training with the agency that hires you.
The salary range of a travel agent is from $27 000 to $51 000 per year. The average salary is $36 959 per year. Also, they have commissions on sales that can vary from year to year, but the commission is around $5 000 per year.
They have to take refresher courses to stay up to date with the changes in the Tourism industry. They are given by the agency.
There isn't any danger related to the job. The only "danger" of being a travel agent is to be jealous of the customers!
The chances that travel agents will be replaced by robots are non-existent. A travel agent needs to have feelings to show to the client. If they are trying to sell a destination to the client, and they don't show any emotion, the client won't be convinced to buy the product. So, I don't think travel agents will be replaced by robots anytime soon.
Around the age of 55 or 60.
I hope this article helped you to clarify what is the job as a travel agent. I hope that next year I will be able to find a job in a travel agency after I graduate.
