The second important part of the profession is procedure writing. A paralegal is going to write multiple kinds of procedure such as divorce procedure, sales contracts, patents, etc. These procedures are time-consuming and hard to write, but paralegals get train for that in class and with on-the-job training. The last aspect of the job is managing the professional agenda of the lawyer. That means making sure not to be past due date for procedure, booking appointments and making sure to go at the court when needed.


What do paralegals do on a typical day?

There is not a typical day for a paralegal since every case are different. When they come in in the morning they either continue their previous projects or get assigned new ones.


Where do paralegals work?

Paralegals can work in a lot of different places. The most popular are law firms, notary cabinet and the court house. But they can also work for big company's, accountant firms, government, banks and land surveyor firms.


How can I become a paralegal?

In Quebec to become a paralegal you have to go to CEGEP and do a 3-year technique that is called Paralegal Technology. Outside of Quebec you need a certificate or to be a member of the bar.


How much money do paralegals make?

Paralegals are paid a pretty decent wage. In the province of Quebec the starting wage is around $18 an hour for an inexperienced paralegal, but the median wage is around $28 an hour. Paralegals can expect to make up to $47 an hour when they become senior paralegals.
