In general sonographers operates ultrasound on various part of the human body like ophthalmic, monitoring pregnancies, vascular, abdominal, obstetrical, and other medical disorders.
First of all, the technician should arrive at least 1 hour before her patient, settle her space and turning on the ultrasound machine and her computer. The next task is sanitizing all the equipment, the patient bed, making sure that all the equipment are working, and set up the cameras she is going to use for the type of exams. The tech usually see 8 to 17 patients in a day so for each of them she will review the patient chart before they arrive, also take the note that the doctor provide. Once the patient is here, she has to do introduction and takes some times to learn the medical history. After that, she has to explain the examination, how the plan will go and check if the patient is comfortable. She has to control the diagnostic ultrasound, when she is done taking the number of excellent images, she will verify any final questions the patient may have, and the exam is done.The last thing she has to do is record the info, images, details gathered, and send it to the doctor or the radiologist for their examination.
There are many places where sonographers can work here is a few. They can work at a hospital but generalist Sonographers often work in general Diagnostic Imaging departments; Cardiac and Vascular Sonographers may work in the cardiology or vascular units of tertiary care facilities.
To become a sonographer you have to complete three to four-year program in diagnostic medical sonography or ultrasound technology. You can also do a completion of a two to three-year program in a related connected health field, and a one year post-diploma program in diagnostic medical sonography from an accredited institution are required. It is important to know that after all of this you will have to register with the Order of Medical Imaging Technologists.
