If you want to learn more about what a biologist is, this article is for you. You will know about their salary, what they do, where they work, what are their disadvantages and a lot of other things. I wrote it with passion because it is my dream job.
Being a biologist can be hard. It is a lot of study. In addition, you always start by being an assistant, and you have to prove yourself to others to get the job that you really want to do. To get more chances, the more studies you have, the more likely you are to get the job you want.
Biologists study humans, plants, animals, and the environments in which they live. They direct research, so they have technicians to help them. They can be at the ecosystem level, or on the micro level, where you study bacteria for example. However, being a biologist is not quite precise. You, mostly of the time, specialize in a domain. For example, marine biologist, microbiologist, biochemist, and there is a lot more.
On a typical day, biologists can go to collect some data. However, mostly of the time you are going to do some lab. You need to analyse the data that you got, and this took a lot more time than to collect them. You also always need to write down reports and conclusion to present them.
Biologists work in a lot of places, it mostly depends on their specialization. However, all of the biologists are going to do labs. The microbiologists are always going to stay in the labs, but a marine biologist needs to go collect data in nature. So, being given you need data, you will always have to collect them in the environment. The places are varied, so it is not really repetitive.
To become a biologist, you first need to do your natural sciences. This will bring you to university which you will apply in the type of biology that interest you. Biology, microbiology, cellular and molecular biology, these are all program in connection with biology. The program interesting me is biology, that concern more the animals, insects, plants, trees, and others. However, it is a type among many.
In Canada, the average salary of a biologist is $68,732.
Biologists always need to be informed of the new articles on their subject that appeared. They need to know new information from others that can help them progress with their own research. They always need to be updated of new advances. Also, they need to be formed about the new materials because they always have new equipment to work with, so they need to know how it works.
The principal dangers that are associated with biologists are mostly during the time that they collect data. Days are going to be long and hot during the summer, so sunburns and heatstroke need to be watched. Also, they will work in forests, so insects bites can be dangerous, like the tick's one. You need to be in good shape when you need to work outside to face conditions that can be difficult.
None. Biologists are necessary and a robot can't replace them. They need to ask questions, to think, to analyse, and to answer a lot of questions. A robot can't do this. However, for some analyse in labs they will maybe can help. For example, if the searcher programs them to do exactly what they want with substances maybe they can do some things. The biologist career is so varied in general, that programming a robot each time for 3 years for example can be only a waste of time.
The average age is about 48 for biologists. It is not very old comparing to the majority that retires at 57 years old in Quebec. However, during the time that you will have worked, you will have brought so much to the world. You will surely have discovered things, and maybe helped a lot of of species. You can't feel like you did nothing during your life because just to advance science is a big step in our world, mostly for the environment.
As you can see, being a biologist needs a lot of studies. I am now in my second year of natural sciences, so I'm not even at the university. I also want to specialize myself, so I need to add two years at the count. My goal is to get my dream job in ten years, to be a biologist and not only a technician.
