A geologist might do different kinds of job during his career. For example, a geologist could, plan the development of a mine, to describe rocks to evaluate if it has any economical value and if mining activities could be considerable. In summary, he or she is an expert with pretty much everything related with the earth and any valuable things you can draw from it.

It depends on what kind of work you do and were, but for example, you will solve problems, organize data and planned and evaluate different projects. You can also go in the field were your tasks will vary even more.

They can work in the field, like in a mine or in an exploration project, but they can also work in a laboratory to process data. A geologist might as well, work for an engineering firm related to a mining company.


How can I become a?

To become a geologist you will need a DEC in Science or Creative Arts program. The more efficient way is to obtain a DEC in mineral technology which will reduce the length of the baccalaureate at the university. Either one of the programs you will choose, you will need to do 2-3 years of university to obtain your baccalaureate in the geologist program.


How much money do geologists make?

In Canada, they can earn from $65 000 per year to $146 000 per year.


What kinds of additional training do geologists need?

There is no additional training needed, but you can always become a geological engineer.


What are the dangers of being a?

When you work in a laboratory, there isn't any real dangers. However, if you are working in a mining environment, there is always risks that could come from falling rocks, heavy equipment or even intoxication.


What are the chances that geologists will be replaced by robots soon?

A lot of programs and software are helping a geologist, but there isn't any robots who could actually replace a geologist. Especially if it's for field work.
