Archaeologists have a natural curiosity about the past and the discovering of secrets and mystery. Being an archaeologist means that you need to be a little eccentric, when you see one being so exiting about a tiny lump of clay, this can be weird. But if you understand the reason why, you start to understand the goals of this job. It is also a job that peoples do because they are passionate about history and the discovering of the unknown. At last, what represent the most what is it like to be an archeologist can be described in two words, patience, and dedication.


What do archaeologists do?

An archaeologist has a lot of things to do, but their principal role is to analyze artifacts of a distant and near past to understand how old civilisation lived and their culture. They are also in charge of the preservation of archaeological sites and their artifacts.


What do archaeologists do on a typical day?

Archaeologists have to do a lot of labs work, they have to supervise there historical sit, if they already work on a one. Otherwise, they have a lot of paperwork to achieve before they start the excavation of a new sit. This is a little list of some document archaeologists have to complete to star the digging of a site. First, the pre-excavation, the securing funding, approval and a licence for starters. Then, they have the pre-excavation groundwork: geophysical and topographical surveys, desktop research, health and safety assessments and other preparation work. Here comes the laborious process of physically excavating the site by hand. They also have to do a lot of work in the lab, like data analyze, redaction of reports and the interpretations of their discovery for the public.


Where do archaeologists work?

Archeologists work in a variety of place, most of their work append in a lab, but some time they have to work on the filed and that involves physical work. However, some of them work under the aegis of a major research institution, like university or museum. The majorities are employed by a private-sector companies that help the government and private developers and make sure that they respect the laws for the protection of archeological sites.


How can I become archaeologist?

This job demands the knowledge in different subjects, like ancient history, geology, geography English and human physiologic. To become one you need a secondary diploma and you also need a Cegep diploma to be accepted in the program of Archaeology at the university. You will have to do a doctorate degree if you want to be a teacher. Related to a lot of articles, the most important thing you have to do is to take as much as you can of experiences as a site and as an archeologist. It will help a lot for your career as an archaeologist.


How much money do archaeologists make?

The median salary, for most of the archaeologists, is around $54.000 per year. However, for most experienced archaeologists, the salary is more around $90.000 per year. This is the average, it can be more or it can be less, the salary can depend on the experiences or on the tasks an archaeologist has to do.


What kinds of additional training do archaeologists need?

The additional training is probably the most important thing in the process of becoming an archaeologist. An intern ship is how you will increase your experience and learnt how to use correctly all the tools that you'll need. This is how an archaeologist learnt the most, by working physically and learn on a site, with a teacher by is side.


What are the dangers of being archaeologist?

Theirs is no big danger, such as being prosecuted by a cursed mommy. The " danger" of that job lies in the physical part on the job. An archaeologist have to work in a lot of uncomfortable position and this can cause a lot of pain to their back, their knees, their neck and their legs. Of course, there is always risk of serious injuries and it normal because it appends that they have to use big mechanics engines to dig the earth.


What are the chances that archaeologists will be replaced by robots soon?

There are no chances that archaeologists will be replaced by robots because to follow the mysteries, archaeologists have to follow their guts, and they need to use there reason to understand and gives their hypothesis. A robot will never be able to understand the human thought such as an archaeologist.


What age do archaeologists retire at?

Most of the time, an archaeologist can retire when he is no more capable of doing the physical work. However, it is not rare to see old people how still practicing there job at the age of 67 years old.


Conclusion

I always wanted to be an archaeologist some day, but I never though that I could really be able to be one. I am so glad to see my dream starting to be real! At the moment, I am studying at cegep Lionel-Groulx, in the History program to go to the University and become an archaeologist. I hope that one day I will able to travel and work on different sites around the world as a Quebecer archaeologist.
