Agreement rules to remember


RULE: Remember a proper name like Helen is third-person singular subject when used alone.
Helen works alone.
Helen studies hard.


RULE: Two or more proper names used together make a plural subject.
Helen and Kate work together.
Helen and Kate study hard.


RULE: With singular subjects, use doesn't or does not before the base form of a verb to make a negative sentence.
Helen doesn't watch TV.
Kate does not eat meat.


RULE: With plural subjects, use don't or do not before the base form of a verb to make a negative sentence.
Helen and Kate don't smoke.
Helen and Kate do not like the smell of tobacco smoke.
Julian Helen, and Helen Julian. Chris Audrey, but Audrey love Chris. Kate Julian and Chris. Julian and Chris know, but Julian and Chris Kate.
